This is an FAQ for those of you who have never played a Tales game. When you hear veterans talk about moves like "Majinken,Kogahazan,and Rekkuuzan", and things like "Hi-Ougi, Jutsuwaza, and Shou-Jutsu" and your response to this is "What the HELL are you talking about?" This will help answer questions like "What are the Japanese skills and English skill names?", "What do these skills do?", and "What game(s) did these skills come from?", so you easily relate to others. Pretty much a "Tales of" wiki. Any skills that do not have any English counterparts will be left as such. Also skills that pertain to one character/game will be pointed out. *WARNING- SOME SPOILERS FOR SOME TALES GAMES WILL APPEAR HERE!!!!!!!!!!* So..........Lets get started shall we? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Skills (Jutsuwaza) (Tokugi) 術技 [JUT] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Literal Meaning: Special Skill Normal skills are plentiful in any Tales game. They can vary from offensive or defensive, depending on the skill and the situation at hand. Normal skills mostly combo after normal attacks. Mostly the first skill you learn or get automatically. As the games went on, fist fighters also gained use of this skill, thus the last kanji changing to "fist" (拳) instead of "sword" (剣). Description: A projectile that travels the ground, that either fades over time or until it hits another object. Majinken Souga (魔神剣・双牙/魔神拳・双牙) "Demon God Sword/Fist: Twin Fang" Translated Name(s): Twin Sonic Blade (ToD2/ToE-Tokugi) Double Demon Fang (ToS-Higi) Twin Demon Fang/Fist (ToL-Tokugi) Description: Character launches two Majinken's forward. Majinrengazan (魔神連牙斬) "Demon God Connecting Fang Slash" Translated Name(s): Sonic Chaos (ToD2/ToE-Ougi) Demonic Chaos (ToS-Ougi) Description: Reid launches one Majinken, then a bunch of Majinken that converge into one huge shockwave in front of him. (ToE) Lloyd launches three Majinken's forward, the third dealing multiple hits on the enemy. (ToS) Gou Majinken (剛・魔神剣) "Strong Demon God Sword" Translated Name(s): Fierce Missile (ToD-Tokugi) Fierce Demon Fang (ToS-Higi) Description: Mary fires a Majinken that causes dizzy. (ToD) Character slams their weapon into the ground making a multiple hit shockwave in front of him. Majinken Kai (魔神剣・改) "Demon God Sword: Reforming" Translated Name(s): Power Missile (ToD-Tokugi) (Mary Argent) Description: Mary fires a blue ground projectile at the enemy, stronger than the normal Majinken. Retsu Majinken (烈・魔神剣) "Intense Demon God Sword" Translated Name(s): Ultima Missile (ToD-Tokugi) (Mary Argent) Description: Mary fires a red ground projectile at the enemy, her strongest version of Majinken. Makoujin (魔皇刃) "Demon Imperial Blade" Translated Name(s): Demonic Circle (ToS-Ougi) (Lloyd Irving) Description: Lloyd slashes with his sword making a shockwave, then slams his sword into the ground crating a shockwave around him. Kogahazan (虎牙破斬) "Tiger Fang Break Slash" Translated Name(s): Tiger Teeth (ToP DeJap-Tokugi) Tiger Blade (ToP GBA - Tokugi) Tiger Blade (ToD-Tokugi) Demon Hammer (ToD2/ToE-Tokugi) Tiger Blade (ToS-Tokugi) Tiger Blade (ToL-Tokugi) Description: Character rises upward with a slash, then a downward slash. As the games went on, a roundhouse kick was added in-between the slashes. Kogarenzan (虎牙連斬) "Tiger Fang Ream Slash" Translated Name(s): Demon Twist (ToD2/ToE-Tokugi) Tiger Rage (ToS-Higi) Description: Character rises upward with a slash, does two slashes while in mid-air, followed by a downward slash. Kogaretsuzan (虎牙烈斬) "Tiger Fang Intense Slash" Translated Name(s): Heavy Tiger Blade (ToS-Higi) (Lloyd Irving) Description: Lloyd rises upward with a slash, then a downward slash so strong it knocks the enemy down. Moukogouhazan (猛虎豪破斬) "Fierce Tiger Great Destruction Slash" Translated Name(s): Twin Tiger Blade (ToS-Ougi) (Lloyd Irving) Description: Lloyd does two Kogahazan in a row, the last hit knocking the enemy down. Chirisazame (散沙雨) "Scatter Sand Rain" Translated Name(s): Swarm (ToD2/ToE-Tokugi) Sword Rain (ToS-Tokugi) Sword Rain (ToL-Tokugi) Description: Character attacks the enemy in a flurry of stabs. Akisazame (秋沙雨) "Autumn Sand Rain" Translated Name(s): Blade Storm (ToP DeJap - Tokugi) Sword Rain (ToP GBA - Tokugi) Neo Swarm (ToE/ToDII - Tokugi) Sword Rain: Alpha (ToS - Higi) Sword Rain: Alpha (ToL - Tokugi) Description: Character attacks the enemy in a longer flurry of stabs, ending with a final attack. Cless- Thrust Reid, Lloyd- Rising Slash Chloe- A smack with her sword. Guy- A flash kick. Zankoushigure (斬光時雨) "Murderous Light Rain" Translated Name(s): Sword Rain: Beta (ToS-Ougi) (Lloyd Irving) Description: Lloyd attacks the enemy in a flurry of stabs, then does a rising upward slash, followed by another slash in the air. Souushou (綜雨衝) "Ruling Rain Thrusts" Translated Name(s): Sonic Sword Rain (ToS-Higi) (Lloyd Irving) Description: Lloyd attacks the enemy in a flurry of stabs, ending in a strong thrust. Shunjinken (瞬迅剣) "Blink Fast Sword" Translated Name(s): Sonic Thrust (ToS-Tokugi) Description: Character does a strong thrust forward. Fuujinken (風迅剣) "Wind Swift Sword" Translated Name(s): Wind Blade (ToD-Tokugi) Hurricane Thrust (ToS-Higi) Description: Character thrusts so strongly, he creates a burst of wind. (ToS) Garr thrusts forward, sending a projectile at the enemy. (ToD) Kuuhashou (空破衝) "Empty Destruction Thrust" Translated Name(s): Super Sonic Thrust (ToS-Higi) Description: Character does a strong thrust forward that pushes the enemy quite a distance away. Rekkuuzan (裂空斬) "Fissure Sky Slash" Translated Name(s): Spin Slash (ToD-Tokugi) Tempest Strike (ToD2/ToE-Tokugi) Tempest (ToS-Tokugi) Description: Character somersaults multiple times with their weapon in front of them, turning them into a human buzz saw. Neat! ^_^ Shinkuuretsuzan (真空裂斬) "Vacuum Fissure Slash" Translated Name(s): Omega Tempest Strike (ToD2/ToE-Ougi) Omega Tempest (ToS-Higi) Description: Character somersaults straight up in the air, rather than forward. Shishisenkou (獅子戦吼) "Lion Battle Roar" Translated Name(s): Lionheart (ToP DeJap-Tokugi) Beast (ToP GBA - Tokugi) Force (ToD-Tokugi) Chi (ToD2/ToE-Tokushu) Beast (ToS-Higi) Beast (ToL-Tokugi) Description: Character attacks the enemy with an energy blast in a shape of a lions head. Shikousenpa (獅吼旋破) "Lion Roar Rotation Destruction" Translated Name(s): Raging Beast (ToS-Ougi) (Lloyd Irving) Description: Lloyd twirls around, bringing the enemy closer to him, then does a Shishisenkou. Shikoushouhajin (獅吼翔破陣) "Lion Roar Flying Destruction Position" Translated Name(s): Hunting Beast (ToS-Ougi) (Lloyd Irving) Description: Lloyd does a Shishisenkou, the slams his sword in the ground creating an additional shockwave. Raijinken (雷神剣/雷神拳) "Lightning God Sword/Fist" Translated Name(s): Lightning Blade (ToD2/ToE-Tokugi) Lightning Blade (ToS-Higi) Description: Character attacks the enemy with a thrust, and upon impact a lightning bolt strikes the enemy. An electrically charged punch followed by a rising uppercut. Chloe does a kick combination, ending with a slash that makes a lightning bolt strike the enemy. Shugohoujin (守護方陣) "Protection Magic Square" Translated Name(s): Gale Shield (ToP Dejap-Tokugi) Aegis Strike (ToP GBA -Tokugi) (ToS PS2-Ougi) (TotA-Ougi) Description: Character creates a temporary energy shield that pushes back any enemy that comes near. Souryuurengazan (爪竜連牙斬) "Nail Dragon Connecting Fang Slash" Translated Name(s): Dragon Blade (ToD-Tokugi) Dragon Swarm (ToD2/ToE-Ougi) Description: Character does a long chain of slashes at the enemy. Pikohan (ピコハン) "Piko Hammer" Translated Name(s): Hammer (ToP DeJap-Spell) Pow Hammer (ToP GBA) Hammer Blow (ToD-Spell) Pow Hammer (ToD2/ToE-Tokugi) Pow Hammer (ToS-Tokugi) Description: A toy hammer is dropped on/thrown at the enemy, causing dizzy (Piyo). As the games went on, the hammers did actual DAMAGE. How? I have no idea..... (Note: "Piko" is not really a word, but a sound effect. To be precise, the sound the hammer makes when it hits something.) Poihan (ポイハン) "Poison Hammer"? But unlike the fist fighters, the first two strikes are "unarmed" hits for swordsmen, making it obsolete for them in the long run. Kuukanshouten'i (空間翔転移) "Spatial Soar Transfer" Translated Name(s): Teleport (ToP Dejap-Jikuu Waza) (Cless Alvein) Lunge (ToP GBA-Jikuu Waza) (Cless Alvein) Description: Cless gathers energy around him as he floats, he then teleports to the enemy and an attacks them with a falling stab, a slash, a thrust, then a rising slash, and then he returns to his initial position. Guren (紅蓮) "Crimson Lotus" Translated Name(s): Hell Pyre (ToP GBA) Description: Chester fires a flaming arrow at the enemy. Fire Element. Touga (凍牙) "Freezing Fang" Translated Name(s): Ice Fang (ToP GBA) Description: Chester fires an ice arrow at the enemy. Ice Element. Gouten (轟天) "Sky Thunder" Translated Name(s): Thunder Blitz (ToP GBA) Description: Chester fires an electrically charged arrow at the enemy. Thunder Element. Shuu'u (衝破) "Collide Destruction" Translated Name(s): Eagle Shot (ToP GBA) Description: Chester jumps in the air and fires arrows shaped like birds at the enemy. Wind Element.
